Orit Reuben was born in Israel to a family of artists and artisans. Her grandfather was an impressionist painter, and as a child she painted at the side of her mother, who is also an artist.
In her teens she immigrated to the United States, where she continued to take in art by regularly visiting museums. Whenever asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, the answer was “an artist.” However, she chose a more secure profession and earned a bachelor’s in interior design at the University of Minnesota.
She moved to Orlando in 2006 for a job, and in 2009 a traffic ticket led Reuben back to the arts. She contested a speeding ticket and was allowed to perform volunteer work instead of paying the fine. She went to Crealde School of Art, where volunteers receive classes in exchange for hours worked. There, she advanced in her craft, getting an artist fellowship, and later a studio artist position. Today, she is an instructor.
The Impressionist pastel artist draws and paints the figure from life. She is adding more landscapes to her repertoire and belongs to the plein-air group, The Florida Painters.
Orit is an associate member of Pastel Society of America and she recently participated in the society’s juried show “Enduring Brilliance” in New York. She is also a member of Southeastern Pastel Society and Pastel Society of Central Florida.
